Writing

Please note that this page is well overdue an update or even a rewrite.

Recently I decided to turn my creative output to writing. An idea had been going around my head for a while now and I'd even got as far as writing a couple of paragraphs, but I had taken it any further. The writing of a spoof 1970's detective adventure video back cover lead me to finally decide to put fingers to the keyboard and write. I guess the ambition is to eventually get a novel published. How realistic this dream is to fulfill is anyone's guess. However people have been willing to spend money on my creations before, so why not this time?

Currently I have three novels in progress on my iMac and a couple of ideas for a further two. Having more than one on the go has made it easier to get around the infamous writers' block.

The first is mystery adventure in the similar style to all the great 1960's and 1970's detective adventure spy TV programmes. This was actually inspired by the spoof video blurb and a couple of real life events of the time.

The second is kind of science fiction / fantasy but with out the science. This is the one that had been spinning around my mind for a while but has now grown beyond all recognition of my original ideas. The whole idea is about what happens when beings from another world use us as their playing pieces in some vast game. You don't think TV talent shows would be here without someone's interference do you? Very dark and gory in some places.

The third is a humorous fantasy tale based in the worlds of dwarves, elves, goblins and things that go bump in the night. The current version is a complete rewrite and expansion of something I first started over 12 years ago and last looked at in 1995. I best not mention the origins of this incase one day it does actually get published and the ten other people involved all turn up for their share of the profits... What I found amazing was that I had used ideas from this that I had started over 12 years ago in the previously mentioned story without even realising it. I guess they must be semi decent for them to still be bouncing around my head after all this time - either that or they explain a few things.

One of my ideas for another story is further adventures for the characters of my mystery adventure. This one would very easily sit in the middle of a series of Department S or The Avengers.

The most recent idea I've had is for a horror story with opening set in the tunnels of the London Underground. I've made good progress so far, well for me anyway, in that I managed to churn out just over 1000 words at the first session one sleepless night at about 2am.
